Over the past 12 years the skills of the ATTACKING ANXIETY program have been used by over a hundred thousand of people. The program is an outgrowth of our outpatient clinical treatment program for anxiety, panic disorder and agoraphobia. The Midwest Center's staff includes M.D.'s, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists, but the people who have contributed their time and personal experiences on these tapes have offered just as much. You will recognize yourself many times in this program. The program is cognitive behavioral in format. We will teach you to recognize your behaviors and reactions and offer ways to change those negative, anxiety producing behaviors and reactions. You will also learn many coping strategies which will help you to alleviate your symptoms and calm your fears.
The methodology of using audio cassette tapes ideally suits this disorder. This format allows you to listen to the material time and time again at your own pace, (until it sinks in). Obviously it would be wonderful to have a therapist who could sit with you whenever you needed them to help you on your journey to recovery. First, few could afford it, secondly the goal of the program is to teach you to rely on your own skills for recovery.
No matter how mild or severe your problem is, you can be helped by this program. You may wonder how this program helps people with varying degrees of the disorder? Basically, all anxiety is addressed in much the same way; complete understanding of the cause and effect, comprehension and implementation of proven coping skills, including exposure to the individual fears and concerns. If even one of these elements is missing, complete recovery is almost impossible. ATTACKING ANXIETY will help anyone who suffers with anxiety as their primary source of concern.
